The featured burger today is from: California is another of the the landmark restaurants and bars in Ulaanbaatar, popular with expats as well as well-heeled Mongolians. It provides American style food with a (dare I say it) west coast feel to it. In summer there is an outside seating area as well as the cosy indoors area. I ordered a strawberry milkshake again (actually, I could start a series tracking down the best strawberry shake in Ulaanbaatar) along with a cheeseburger. Up front, I should give you all a warning. If you order the burger, then do not munch too much on the bread that is served as an appetiser. The meal here, whilst expensive at 5,500 tugrigs, is also big. I mean really big. Baagi and I now work on the approach of eating the burger BEFORE even considering tucking into the chips. This is probably Baagi's favourite burger at the moment and whilst I think I prefer the UB Deli a smidgeon more, Baagi's rating takes the California to the top spot, leastwise until I can get him into the UB Deli to partake of one of their burgers. The burger here consists of large ground beef patty, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and sometimes a slice of raw onion and some pickles. This day there were none. There is also a slice of cheese, of course. The bun contains sesame seeds. The bun is a little dry (or short) to my taste but soaks up the juices from the patty quite well. A recommended burger for your stay in Ulaanbaatar. |
